BRIEF

Artgrid approached us with the idea of creating four collections of stock footage to add to their library: a couple enjoying a cozy day inside a cabin on a snowy day, the same couple exploring a winter wonderland together, the joy of athletes and a father and son playing baseball, and the comings and goings of a taxi and its passengers on a normal route around a metropolitan city.

PRODUCTION

Motivo partnered with Mirandum Pictures to bring Artgrid's vision to life. We began by creating a mood board and collecting references to guide the cinematography. Then, we set out to find the perfect cast for each of the stories - from a cozy cabin-dwelling couple to a father-son baseball duo. We searched for the quintessential locations for each scene, ultimately finding a charming small town for the couple, a professional-grade stadium for the baseball players, and a bustling city for the taxi scenes. With our talented cast and picturesque locations secured, we were ready to film. We only needed one day for each collection, and then we got to work optimizing the footage for Artgrid's catalog. We provided the client with all the necessary assets and shared ready-to-download content for their distribution.

Even when filming stock footage, it’s always important to have a story-based approach. The below treatments show how we brought the Professional Baseball narrative to life, guiding the scenes we created in each of the clips. By staying focused on the story in each scene, we were able to create highly engaging and compelling footage that will captivate viewers and add value to Artgrid's library.

A FATHER & SON PLAY CATCH:
In the stillness of a summer day, in a small town that could be anywhere in America, the afternoon sunlight lengthens over the green grass of a baseball diamond. A man and his son step together onto the empty field.
They share a knowing smile - this outing is a cherished tradition. First they play catch, tossing the ball from one glove to the other's.
They grow more daring - a long toss, a hard throw, a sudden dive to field the ball.
Then the boy steps up to the plate. The father steps to the mound and winds to pitch.
The boy swings. CRACK! He points excitedly and jumps. his father lifts his arms in celebration with him.
The boy lifts his bat once more. He looks around the stadium - the scene of so many thrilling hits, so many diving saves, so many showdowns on the mound, so much drama and excitement -
- and now we can see it all too...

ATHLETES PLAY BASEBALL:
The players rush out of the dugout and run onto the field!
Men take their positions across the playing field with practiced ease - with rapid moves they warm up, flinging the ball from one player to another. The outfielder lobs a long arc to the PLAYER on 1st. 1st base whips the ball to the catcher. Half-rising, the catcher snaps up the ball and throws to the pitcher. A batter warms up in the on-deck circle, swinging the bat.
Now the pitcher takes the ball and rests it behind him as he leans forward, peering intently. The batter steps up to the plate. Behind him the catcher crouches into place. The batter raises the bat over his shoulder and stands poised. The pitcher stares impassively, communicating with the catcher with imperceptible shakes and nods of his head. He winds up, and throws the ball!
The game is a whirl of action. The batter swings and misses, swings and hits. The ball soars in the air. An outfielder dives. A first baseman reaches with one foot on the plate to catch a ball. A runner dives and slides into second. A baseman leaps in the air to catch THE BALL then whips round to tag a runner. A batter drives one down the field and runs to first. An outfielder chases a fly ball to the edge of the fence. A runner makes a break for it and slides home. A hitter knocks one out of the park and pumps his fist.
Victory! Players in the dugout leap to their feet. The team surges onto the mound. Haloed by the golden summer sun, they touch their caps together in a celebratory circle, the champions of a cherished American pastime.
